let's start the conversation....
choreography!
I believe choreography is a conversation; a way to express beyond words on the page or notes on the sheet.

I have set choreography to apocalyptic retellings of The Simpsons, the rich culture of 90s New York, German tales of sorrow and hope, and invigorating solo concert work. I enjoy exploring research-based movement and finding creative and collaborative ways to tell stories on stage.

Choreography by Shealey Hannigan
Featuring works from Spring Awakening, Rent, & Mr. Burns: A Post Electric Play

See below for an in-depth look at each of these projects!
Spring Awakening
Missouri State University, Fall 2025, directed by Julia Moriarty
Combining cultural and religious research of Germany in the 1800s, I created a movement language exploring our primal, unchanging desires for love, growth, and resistance. The work dives into the intricacies of the age-old argument: nature versus nurture.

Rent
Missouri State University, Spring 2025, directed by Kurt Heinlein
The study of queer, BIPOC, and fringe culture in 90s-era New York City, led to a movement language born from the beautiful amalgamation of the impact the era has had on our pop-culture world today. The choreography investigates history, unabashed love, and trauma through gestures and stripped-down movement.
Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play
Missouri State University, Spring 2024, directed by Karen Sabo
Through extensive social dance and gesture-based research combined with cast surveys, the choreography deconstructs and rebuilds pedestrian movements across all three acts. I set out to explore what parts of our humanity remain, even after our normalcy in human life is destroyed.
